Dayang, a veteran journalist, former mayor of Kalibo, Aklan, and chairman emeritus of the Publisher Association of the Philippines (PAPI), was posthumously honored with the prestigious CMMA Serviam Award at the 47th Catholic Mass Media Awards (CMMA) Night on Wednesday, November 19, held at the Citystate Tower Hotel in Ermita, Manila.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dayang, who also served as CMMA Board Secretary, was recognized for his steadfast leadership, wisdom, and dedication to CMMA&#8217;s mission, particularly in promoting ethical, responsible, and faith-inspired communication. His contributions have left a lasting impact on the organization and the broader media community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Throughout his life, Dayang&#8217;s legacy has been defined by the stories he shared, the principles he championed, and the numerous lives he touched as a community newspaper advocate, journalist, and public servant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This award, given for the fourth time, acknowledges Dayang&#8217;s distinguished seven-decade career in journalism and his productive roles in public service, including his tenure as director of the National Book Development Board (NBDB) and APO Production Unit, Inc., among other government institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a journalist, Dayang served as publisher of the Philippine Graphic Weekly and Headline Manila, and as president of the Manila Overseas Press Club (MOPC). He also served as a director of Fortune Life Insurance Company until his passing in April 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dayang is survived by his children Bernadette Dayang, Juan Dayang, Jr and Geraldine Dayang Fernando.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Manila, Philippines &ndash; The late Juan P.
