Dasmariñas Awards Sewing Machines to Empower Local Women’s Groups
In a bid to strengthen community-based livelihood and promote women’s empowerment, the City Government of Dasmariñas held an awarding ceremony for the distribution of nine portable sewing machines to two active civic organizations—Kababaihan ng Dasmariñas sa Bagong Milenyo and the Green Ladies. The event, held at the city hall grounds, was attended by local officials, community leaders, and members of the beneficiary groups.
Mayor Jennifer Barzaga led the ceremonial turnover, emphasizing the city’s commitment to inclusive development and grassroots entrepreneurship. She noted that the sewing machines are not just tools for income generation, but symbols of resilience and creativity among Dasmariñas’ women. “We continue to invest in our people, especially our women, who play a vital role in shaping a progressive and compassionate city,” she said.
The Kababaihan ng Dasmariñas sa Bagong Milenyo and Green Ladies have long been involved in various community initiatives, including skills training, environmental advocacy, and social enterprise. With the new equipment, both groups aim to expand their tailoring services, produce school uniforms, eco-friendly bags, and garments, while mentoring younger members in sewing and design.
City officials highlighted that the project aligns with Dasmariñas’ broader goals of sustainability and inclusive growth. The Green Ladies, in particular, plan to incorporate recycled materials into their sewing projects, promoting environmental responsibility alongside economic opportunity. The initiative also supports the city’s Gender and Development programs, which prioritize capacity-building for women.
