DILG Secretary Jonvic Remulla Backs Transfer of PCG and Bureau of Immigration to DILG
Manila, Philippines – Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla has expressed his full support for the proposal to place the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and the Bureau of Immigration (BI) under the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).
Secretary Remulla emphasized that the move would strengthen coordination among agencies tasked with safeguarding national security, border control, and public safety. He noted that integrating the PCG and BI into the DILG would streamline operations, improve accountability, and enhance the delivery of services to the Filipino people.
“Ang layunin ng panukalang ito ay mas mapalakas ang ugnayan ng mga ahensya na direktang nakakaapekto sa seguridad ng ating bansa. Sa ilalim ng DILG, mas magiging epektibo ang koordinasyon at mas mabilis ang pagtugon sa pangangailangan ng publiko,” ani Secretary Remulla.
The proposal is currently being studied by policymakers and stakeholders, with the DILG expressing readiness to take on the expanded mandate should the transfer be approved. Secretary Remulla assured that the department will prioritize capacity-building, modernization, and inter-agency collaboration to ensure a smooth transition.
This initiative reflects the government’s commitment to strengthening institutions that protect the nation’s borders, uphold the rule of law, and maintain peace and order across the country.
