COMELEC Sets Special Election in Cavite’s 4th District on August 29, 2026  

The Commission on Elections (COMELEC), under the leadership of Chairman George Erwin Garcia, today announced the official schedule for the special election in Cavite’s 4th District. This election will fill the vacant seat in the House of Representatives following the expulsion of former Representative Francisco “Kiko” Barzaga last June 2.  

Chairman Garcia emphasized that the special election is mandated under Section 4 of Republic Act No. 7166, ensuring that the residents of Cavite’s 4th District continue to have representation in Congress. “It is our duty to safeguard the voice of the people. This special election will guarantee that Caviteños are not left without a representative in the House,” Garcia stated.  

Election Schedule

– Filing of Certificate of Candidacy (COC): July 15–17, 2026  

– Start of Election Period: July 30, 2026  

– Election Day: August 29, 2026  

– Proclamation of Winner: Expected on August 30, 2026  

Malacañang has confirmed that sufficient funds amounting to ₱200 million have been allocated for the conduct of the special election. Chairman Garcia also noted that August 29 is likely to be declared a special holiday in the district to encourage voter participation.  

“The Commission is fully prepared to carry out this electoral exercise with transparency, efficiency, and integrity. We call on the people of Cavite’s 4th District to actively participate and make their voices heard,” Garcia added. (CTJ TEAM)
