PhilHealth pays PGH P22.8-M benefit claims for heart attack patients
The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) has paid the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) PHP22.8 million for the first batch of its claims for Ischemic Heart Disease – Acute Myocardial Infarction (IHD-AMI) benefit package.
In a news release on Monday, PhilHealth President and Chief Executive Officer Edwin Mercado said the payment is part of the state insurer’s commitment to brinG life-saving health services closer to every Filipino through “prompt claims reimbursements.”
“Kami ay iikot pa sa iba’t ibang mga rehiyon para ating personal na tiyakin ang mabilis na pagpoproseso at pagbabayad ng claims para sa mga serbisyong ipinagkaloob ng ating mga ospital sa mga miyembrong may sakit sa puso (We will visit different regions to personally ensure the quick processing and payment of claims for the hospital services provided to members with heart disease),” he added.
The benefit package covers up to PHP523,853 of the patient’s treatment cost. It can be availed of from all accredited public and private health facilities, Levels 1 to 3, with the capacity to deliver the necessary services.
As of March, the IHD-AMI package has benefited at least 77 claims for heart attack patients at the PGH.
PGH Medical Director Dr. Gerardo Legaspi commended the improvement of healthcare services for IHD-AMI.
“Sa ibinigay pong pagkakataon na ma-improve ang service to heart attack patients, record high ang ating serbisyo — wala na pong charity na heart attack patient ngayon (With the improved services for heart attack patients, our services are in record high — there are no longer “charity” heart attack patients now),” he said.
“Iyan ang improvement na gusto natin makita (That is the improvement that we want to see.) And I think with this current administration of PhilHealth, we will be seeing more of that,” he added.
