Imus City Explores Sustainable Waste Management Inspired by Pasig’s Circular Economy Program
Imus City Mayor Alex “AA” Advincula recently led a learning visit to Pasig City, where he and his team engaged with Mayor Vico Sotto under the Mayors for Good Governance (M4GG) initiative. The visit focused on Pasig’s innovative solid waste management program, which has been strengthened through the principles of the circular economy.
During the tour, Mayor Advincula and the Imus delegation visited Pasig’s I.C.E. Hub (Innovation, Circularity, and Environment Hub). The facility showcased how collected waste materials are transformed into useful products such as bags, hollow blocks, and other marketable items—giving discarded materials a new life while generating livelihood opportunities for the community.
Mayor Advincula emphasized the importance of adopting similar practices in Imus, noting that sustainable waste management is not only an environmental responsibility but also a way to empower Imuseños.
“We have seen how Pasig City has successfully turned waste into valuable resources. This is a model we want to replicate in Imus to ensure that our waste management program is both meaningful and sustainable for every Imuseño,” Mayor Advincula said.
The Imus City Government is now exploring ways to integrate circular economy principles into its own waste management system. This initiative aims to reduce landfill dependency, promote recycling, and create economic opportunities through upcycled products.
With this forward-looking approach, Mayor Advincula envisions Imus as a leader in sustainable urban development, ensuring that environmental stewardship goes hand in hand with community progress.
