Bacoor Marks 128th Anniversary of Historic Assembly
BACOOR CITY, Cavite – August 1, 2026. The Schools Division Office of Bacoor City, under the leadership of Dr. Babylyn M. Pambid, CESO VI, Schools Division Superintendent, together with Dr. Nereus V. Malinis, Education Program Supervisor for Araling Panlipunan, spearheaded the commemoration of the 128th Anniversary of the Bacoor Assembly, a landmark event that reaffirmed the proclamation of Philippine Independence.
The ceremony gathered Social Studies teachers from various public schools in Bacoor, highlighting the role of educators in preserving historical consciousness and instilling patriotism among the youth. The event was organized in partnership with local government officials and national cultural institutions.
Distinguished guests included Hon. Strike B. Revilla, Mayor of Bacoor, Hon. Rowena Bautista-Mendiola, Vice Mayor of Bacoor, and Hon. Lani Mercado-Revilla, Representative of Cavite’s 2nd District. Also present were Carminda R. Arevalo, Acting Executive Director of the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP), and Joseph Patrick Lee, representative of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA).
Their participation underscored the unity of local and national leaders in honoring the country’s heritage.
The program featured solemn tributes, including the offering of flowers, an opening prayer by Pastor Rico Mendoza, and the reading of selected portions of the Acta de Independencia by Councilor Reynaldo D. Palabrica. Messages of solidarity were delivered by NHCP’s Carminda Arevalo, NCCA’s Joseph Patrick Lee, and Representative Lani Mercado-Revilla, while Mayor Strike Revilla gave an inspirational address emphasizing the enduring value of independence.
The commemoration recalled the historic Bacoor Assembly of August 1, 1898, presided over by President Emilio Aguinaldo, where more than 200 delegates from 16 provinces ratified the Acta de Independencia upon the counsel of Apolinario Mabini. This document was later affirmed by the Malolos Congress, solidifying the foundation of the First Philippine Republic.
In accordance with Republic Act No. 12073, August 1 is declared a Special Working Holiday to recognize the significance of the Bacoor Assembly. “This commemoration is not only a remembrance of the past but also a reaffirmation of our collective identity as a free and patriotic people,” the organizers emphasized, echoing the spirit of unity that continues to inspire the nation.
