PIA Chief Visits Laguna Governor to Strengthen Local Information Networks
Laguna Governor Sol Aragones welcomed Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Director-General Usec. Katherine Chloe S. De Castro on Friday, August 29, during a courtesy visit aimed at reinforcing collaboration between national and provincial communication efforts. The meeting highlighted shared goals in promoting accurate public information and combating digital misinformation.
Director-General De Castro expressed PIA’s full support for the provincial government’s initiatives, particularly in enhancing local information systems. She emphasized the importance of empowering communities through credible communication, noting that the agency’s efforts are aligned with the directive of Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Acting Secretary Dave Gomez.
Among the key areas of cooperation discussed were the establishment of a Barangay Information Officers’ Network, the reorganization of the Laguna Information Officers’ Network, and the continued rollout of the PCO’s “Maging Mapanuri” media and information literacy campaign. These initiatives aim to build resilient communities equipped to discern truth from misinformation, especially on social media platforms.
Governor Aragones welcomed the partnership, recognizing PIA’s role in amplifying government services and ensuring that accurate, timely information reaches the public. She stressed that strategic communication is essential in curbing the spread of false narratives and in promoting transparency under her administration.
The meeting was attended by key regional and provincial information officers, including PIA CALABARZON Regional Head Ma. Cristina Arzadon, Assistant Regional Head Fredmoore Cavan, Laguna Information Center Coordinator Christopher Hedreyda, Consultant to the Governor Mr. Doland Castro, Laguna PIO Head Danilo Lucas, and Supervising Administrative Officer Nelson Bautista.
This strengthened alliance between PIA and the Laguna Provincial Government marks a significant step toward integrated state media and community empowerment, reinforcing the national vision of a well-informed and participatory citizenry.
